Lamb House
Rye
Henry James (1843-1916) had spent 22 years living in London before he moved to Rye in 1897. He loved both the house and town: "I have been to the South, the far end of Florida etc - but I prefer the far end of Sussex! In the heart of the orange groves I yearned for the shade of the old Lamb House mulberry tree." Among his visitors at Lamb House were Wells, Conrad, Kipling, Chesterton, Stephen Crane, and Rupert Brooke. The house is owned by the National Trust.Whole property
